Xi’an Jiaotong University Doctoral Program for Outstanding International Undergraduates

I. Program Introduction

Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU), is the national key University directly administered by the Ministry of Education of China. It is the top 10 Research University in China and member of China’s Ivy League --- C9 League. It was ranked No. 10 on the list of 2024 Shanghai Ranking of Chinese Mainland.

The university has launched the"Doctoral Program for Outstanding International Undergraduates" in the four subjects of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. The program is seeking for outstanding international undergraduates with innovative qualities and aspiring to become the world's top scientists to directly pursue doctoral degrees at Xi'an Jiaotong University.

II. Highlights of the Program

² Key subjects. The subjects of the program are all key ones with strong scientific research strengths and rich scientific research projects. Students have access to vast intellectual resources and research opportunities.

² A team of leading supervisors. The supervisors all have study-abroad and scientific research experience in world-class universities and have rich experience in student training. They provide cutting-edge research environment including links with other universities within and outside China.

² Bachelor's direct to Ph.D. study. The direct doctoral study is an innovative training mode for international students' education in China, which runs through the master's and doctoral training stages. Students are guided by the same supervisor or tutor group after enrollment, which has better continuity of scientific research projects and is more beneficial to the output of academic achievements. Moreover, it can save at least two years of time compared with the traditional training method of master's degree and then a doctorate.

² Personalized curriculum in English. The program adopts an all-English academic innovative talent training system. According to the students' undergraduate background and academic interests, a personalized training plan is formulated to allow students to have a good connection, adaptation and development between different education systems.

² Full Scholarship.Students will be funded by CSC full scholarship upon admission.

III. Application Schedule

Online application: November 15th, 2024--- April 15th, 2025

V. Eligibility

Applicants are required to

1. be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary passport and be in good mental and physical health;

2. be under 40 years of age；

3. be bachelor’s degree holders of the universities whose academic subjects are ranked among the world's top 200 or the subjects of the prestigious universities of BRI cooperation countries；

4. have a minimum overall average mark of 80%.

Step 2：Online application at Xi’an Jiaotong University’s International student application system at http://isso.xjtu.edu.cn/recruit/login

Step 3：Pay the application fee.

(The university will send a Payment Notice for Application through system information/email to those who pass the initial review.)

Step 4：Application complete.

Students should pay close attention to the application system and registered email; follow up on the latest information such as academic review, pre-admission review, Scholarship awarding or tuition payment and acceptance information, etc.

NOTES:

a）The application fee is 800RMB which is non-refundable.

b）Online application is the only way to submit the application. Hard copies are unacceptable.

VII. Application Documents

All documents must be complete, true, and correct in either Chinese or English.

1. XJTU Application Form for International Students

Automatically formed after online application in XJTU system.

2. Completed Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report

The physical examination must cover ALL the items listed in the form. (Download at/en/2.pdf and fill in Chinese or English.)The forms with incomplete records or without the suggestion and signature of the attending physician, an official cross-edge stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicant are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months.

3. Original Non-criminal Record within the validity period

4. Original Highest Diploma and Its Notarized Copies (Prospective diploma winners must submit an official certificate from their current university.)

5. Original and notarized copies of transcripts during the undergraduate period

The transcript should be issued and stamped by the Academic Affairs Office or the relevant student administration department of the school.

6. Recommendation Letters

Two original recommendation letters written by professors or associate professors. One of them must be theXi’an Jiaotong University Recommendation Letter from a Potential Supervisor.

7. A Study Plan or Research Proposal

Applicants must submit a written study plan or research proposal in English or Chinese, with a minimum of 1500 words.

8. Original Research Achievements and Notarized Copies

Applicants may submit published research papers, award certificates or other documents to prove their achievement and ability in academic research if any.

9. Certificate of Language Proficiency

Transcript of IELTS 6.0 and above, TOEFL 85 and above. Other English language proficiency certificates are also acceptableupon approval by XJTU.

10. Photocopy of Valid Ordinary Passport.

The passport should be valid later than September 2025. If you do not meet the requirements, please renew your passport in time.

NOTES:

a) The materials uploaded in the system should be clear, true and valid. It is recommended that the applicant use professional equipment to scan the relevant documents to be submitted, and the consequences caused by the unclear or unidentifiable materials shall be taken by the applicant.

b) Incomplete Applications will be rejected.

c) No application documents mentioned above will be returned whether the application is successful or not.

d) Notarized Chinese/English versions are required for documents with languages other than the two.

VIII. Admission Notification

1. Admission will be given to the outstanding candidates based on the comprehensive review results of application documents, interview, and (or) examinations, etc.

2. Make sure your email, telephone number, and postal address correctly be filled in the application system as they are key to getting you contacted during the admission process. Failure to respond to the university in time as required may lead to automatic rejection.

3.As a general rule, applicants are not allowed to change their study status information such as university, category, major, teaching language, study duration etc. once they get admitted.

4. The university will provide the Admission Notice, JW201/202 form (Confirmation Form for Study in China) for the admitted applicants to apply for X visa to come to China. Those who are with other types of visa will not be allowed for registration at XJTU.

5. Admitted applicants should register at XJTU strictly in accordance with the date, and place prescribed on the Admission Notice (usually in September, and the specific time depends on the admission letter). Failure to do so within two weeks will result in the admission and scholarship status being invalid.

6. At the time of registration, the school will make a qualification review to re-evaluate the eligibility of the student. As part of the qualification review, the school will recheck all the documents and personal information of the student, including identity information, original graduation and degree certificates, language proficiency certificates, etc. The school will also check the behavior of the student to ensure that they are a law-abiding citizen and have maintained good moral conduct before the registration period. Please bring the Original Highest Diploma and Original Physical Examination Record for Foreigners and Blood Test Report for registration. Those who fail to pass this qualification review will be disqualified from admission and scholarship status.
